The story is known for effectively blending realism with fantasy. The story focuses on a wooden toy, who is brought to life by a fairy. He then starts living a normal life, just like any other human being. However, after some time, he starts misbehaving with anyone he meets. He starts lying to people and the fairy gets angry about seeing this. She curses Pinocchio and tells him that his nose would grow by an inch every time he would lie. Pinocchio regrets his actions and ends up saving his father from the wrath of a whale. The fairy gets impressed by this act and decides to take back the curse. He also gets rewarded with a real human body.
