Safety First: Silicon Valley techno-giants ask their employees to Work From Home to keep themselves safe from the COVID-19 outbreak

Post date:

With the deadly outbreak of the pandemic, novel Coronavirus, the problems in the everyday lives of people are on the rise. The virus has already reached the United States and several technological giants have been asking their employees to work from home.

Companies ask employees to work from home

Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook in Seattle have strictly asked their employees to carry on work from home as the COVID-19 has spread throughout Washington. Companies in Silicon Valley have followed the same convention by asking their workers to stay at home.

It won’t be long till other techno-giants in New York and other parts of the United States will follow the same suit. Recently, a large number of meetings and gatherings by companies like Google, Facebook, etc. and international conferences have been canceled due to the same reason. They are supposed to be carried out in virtual platforms so that work does not get delayed.

Companies following this suit:

The companies who have asked their employees to work from home are as follows:

  1. Apple
  2. LinkedIn
  3. HP
  4. Twitter
  5. Lyft
  6. Salesforce
  7. Intel

The policy of work from home, however, has been started in areas where the outbreak is serious and people have been tested positive with COVID-19. In other places, employees are expected to travel to their offices as usual.

Some exceptions like Twitter have asked their global workforce to work from home, no matter in which area do they reside.

Upcoming difficulties and their solution

Most of the cancelations of meetings and work on office premises have been advised and directed by professional doctors and health officials. For example, the King County officials have asked the Washington offices to increase remote work and the Santa Clara officials abided by this.

The City Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio’s directive for New York workers to work from home may lead to similar situations.

Not only work from home, but major events from all around the globe are being canceled or postponed indefinitely.

Some of them have chosen the only viable option of going digital-only. With the wide disruption of normal routines of human lives, this pandemic may bring many more unexpected changes to everyone around, if not controlled in time.
