“The Witcher Season 2” : Will “Geralt and Ciri” travel to the ancestral home of the witchers?

The Witcher is a fantasy drama series that became the most popular series on Netflix in 2019 (in the UK).  Based on a book series written by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has had a lot of success, fencing off comparisons with Game of Thrones, another fantasy book-based gory drama. Netflix had already announced a renewal even before the first season premiered on December 20, 2019. If only we were as confident as Netflix on this! Damn right we are. Filming is all set to start from August this year.

The Witcher Season 2: Release Date

You already know it; Coronavirus delayed the production of the new season, so wait until 2021 to get it over your screens. Per The Wrap, the shooting had begun; they had to shut it down after six weeks into the season. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said, “But we have a very international crew and it wasn’t just about the health of our crew and our cast, but also getting them back home to their families. So that was at the forefront for us.”

The filming is ready to take place in August, confirmed by the official twitter account of The Witcher.

The Witcher Season 2: Cast

The return of some of the key characters in Season 2 was announced in November 2019 before the release of the first season.

Henry Cavill will re-appear as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Princess Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg. Other returning actors include Anna Shaffer (as Triss), Joey Batey (as Jaskier), Eamon Farren (as Cahir), MyAnna Buring (as Tissaia), Lars Mikkelson (as Stregobor) among others.

New additions are to join the cast:

  • Game of Thrones actor, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen
  • Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia as witcher trainer Vesemir.
  • Peaky Blinders’ Bullion as Lambert
  • Fast and Furious 9’s Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel

These and a few others will be seen in the new season. Game of Thrones Night King Vladimír Furdík, who played The Witcher’s first choreographer, will not be returning for the second season.

Makers are now ready to come up with season 2.

The Witcher Season 2

Before the discharge of season one, Netflix has proclaimed the next season which will include eight episodes. It will release in the year 2021. Netflix has not yet announced the exact release date for season two. The trailer of the second season is moreover not revealed.

When will the filming process resume?

Makers will resume the filming process as soon as possible. Probably in August, it will begin again. Arborfield Studios supervising director Bob Terry, ascertained in an interview with Deadline that the studio is taking safety measures. Arborfield is the leading studio in London that Netflix borrows to film and generate the series.

There are many coming series that is delaying its production process or release date due to this situation of the whole world. Nevertheless, makers of the series are trying to continue making the process as early as possible by taking in mind the safety standards.

Who are the casting members?

There are many cast members who are returning in season 2 with some new casting members. Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra in the role of Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Ciri are returning in season two.

Netflix has announced the names of new cast members. They are Yasen Atour (Young Wallander) in the role of Coën Agnes, Bjorn (Monster) will the part of Vereena, Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) took over the role of Lambert, Thue Posted Rasmussen (Fast and Furious 9) in the role of Eskel and many others. Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia will furthermore join the series as witcher trainer Vesemir.

The Witcher Season 2: Plot

Season one was based on a collection of short stories, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, that come before the Witcher saga. It is suggested that Season 2 will take its plot from A Grain of Truth and Blood of Elves, another set of stories by Sapkowski. Rumors have it that Geralt and Ciri will be traveling to Kaer Morhen which is the ancestral home of the witchers. There, they meet Nivellen, a man-turned-beast.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Hissrich said, “A lot of what we’ve set up in season one will come into play in season two.” “We will get into some stuff from Blood of Elves. But I also think there are things that we wanted to adopt from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny that we didn’t have time to do.”

Season 2 will also likely have a linear approach with all of the characters in the same timeline, unlike the time- jumps that dominated the previous season.
