Anne with an E or Anne(used in first seasons is a Canadian based television show that premiered on the march, 19 2017 on CBC. The show is based on Lucy Maud’s 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables, which told the adventures of an 11-year-old Anne Shirley.
The initial reviews of the show were very favorable, receiving praise from various critics.
Though the first season had seven episodes, CBC renewed the series for season 2 and later on season 3, both consisting of 10 episodes. The show was canceled after season 3, much to the dislike of its audience. The show was canceled the same day the season finale premiered in Canada.
CBC, on which it originally aired, received massive criticism from the fans by canceling the show. The main reason for the cancelation was guessed as a rift between show’s producers and streaming platform, Netflix.
This gave rise to much social media as well as offline campaigns by the fans to save the show. The hashtag #renewannewithane became reasonably accessible as it also rose to trend positions on Twitter. A petition was also started through the popular site change.org, and this also garnered more than 80,000 people’s support.
Fans also created self-funded billboards to show their dissatisfaction. Even famous personalities, most notably actor Ryan Reynolds and singer Sam Smith also showed their support by participating in the twitter campaign.
But as of now, the show’s makers are pretty adamant about their decision, and no certain news of season 4 happening is there.
Anne, with an E revolves around Anney Shirley, an enthusiastic 11-year-old orphan who is adopted by a brother and sister. The series shows how she settles while tackling the various problems that existed in the 19th century.
