Apple’s latest Macbook Air 2020: Exciting upgrades and improved keyboard!

Post date:

While the new Macbook Air is faster than its predecessors, what is really exciting is its keyboard.

Despite the outbreak of coronavirus that has led to a global standstill, Apple has revealed the model design for its new Macbook Air. Users now have something to wait for during their quarantine period. Last year’s model is very similar to this Macbook Air, with upgrades to the graphics, storage, and processor. The height of the new model has seen an increase of 0.02”.

While these new features are well and fine, they are nothing compared to the biggest visible upgrade to the keyboard.

What is the Macbook Air 2020?

This model is the latest of Apple’s laptops that first appeared in 2008 with its portable design. The Macbook Air 2020 follows the same design as the 2018 and 2019 models, and its improvements are mostly limited to upgrades in its components. The major change is to the keyboard.

Users have often complained about the butterfly keyboard that existed in the 2015 to 2019 models. Now comes the scissor keyboard design that is also present in the current-gen Apple Magic Keyboard and the 2019 Macbook Pro 16-inch.

Both keyboards feel very different. Dan Ackerman of CNET said that the new keyboard is “positively delightful, which is not praise I offer lightly.”

Other new features of the Macbook Air 2020 include the 3-microphone array, 6K external monitor support, better stereo speakers, and touch ID.

There is not much of a difference in performance. The new model is more of an upgrade rather than a redesign.

More on the keyboard

Anyone who types a lot on their Macbook will be pleased with this new keyboard. The key travel distance makes a huge difference. On the scissor keyboard, it is only one millimeter, but even that is the double of the butterfly keyboard.

It is not easy to completely ignore the clumsiness on keyboards where the travel is bigger.

The new keyboard eliminates the issues of the butterfly keyboard – the missed keystrokes, the duplicates, sensitivity to dust, and the sticky keys.

What is the starting price?

The Macbook Air 2020 starts at $999, and that too comes with the new keyboard and the larger hard drive.

When will it be available?

Starting from March 18, the new model is available for order on the Apple website. It will be in stores within the next week.

Apple’s retail stores are closed outside greater China due to the pandemic currently. Thus, ordering the laptop online is the only way to buy it until it comes to other retailers in the upcoming weeks.
