Handing out nude pics to National Enquirer has been denied by Michael Sanchez
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com Inc. has been sued for defamation by his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez’s brother Michael Sanchez, who said that Bezos’ representatives had spread false rumours to news outlets stating that Sanchez had provided graphic nude photos of Bezos to the press.
The lawsuit, which was filed in California state court in Los Angeles on Friday also shows Gavin de Becker, who is a security consultant hired by Bezos, as a defendant. Sanchez claims that de Becker worked alongside Bezos for spreading false statements about the public revelation of Bezos’ affair with his sister Lauren Sanchez.
Bezos’ lawyer said, “My client has chosen to address this lawsuit in court and we will do that soon.” Lauren Sanchez’s attorney did not give out any official statement but spoke on her behalf that what he had done was a “deep and unforgivable betrayal” and de Becker’s office or the PR department of Amazon were not available for comments.
The lawsuit provided by Sanchez acknowledges the fact that he played a part in publicizing the relationship but he also said that, as her manager at that time and family member, he was making sure that his sister was not portrayed in a bad light.
After the National Enquirer ran a story on the affair, a blog post was published by Bezos in which he alleged that the tabloid tried to blackmail him with embarrassing photos that he sent to Lauren Sanchez. Adding to that, he said that the Enquirer had secret ties with Saudi Arabia, which was upset at the new coverage portrayed in The Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos.
Two human rights experts working at the U.N. said that Bezos’ iPhone was likely hacked through a file sent by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, last month. But the experts didn’t connect this with the Enquirer. But they called for an immediate investigation on this matter nonetheless.
